Who should take Acomplia 20 mg tablets ?

Acomplia is indicated for the treatment of obese patients (BMI greater than or equal to 30kg/m2), or overweight patients (BMI greater than 27kg/m2) with associated risk factors, such as type 2 diabetes or dyslipidaemia.

Acomplia should not be initiated in patients with hepatic or renal impairment or patients with uncontrolled serious psychiatric illnesses such as major depression.

A recent study conducted at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville suggest that Acomplia affects the level of anandamide, a key chemical needed for embryos to implant normally in the womb.


Contact your doctor before you start to take Acomplia:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to rimonabant, or any of the other ingredients of Acomplia
  • if you have severely impaired renal function
  • if you are currently being treated for epilepsy
  • if you are less than 18 years of age. There is no information available on the use of Acomplia in people under 18 years of age.
  • If you think you might be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant while taking Acomplia
  • If your are taking other medicines (so-called CYP3A4 inhibitors) such as: itraconazole, ketaconazole, ritonavir, telithromycin, clarithromycin, nefazodone
